The Federal Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released an order that may stop landlords from evicting qualified tenants through December 31, 2020

On May 31st we put out a request for policy ideas from the Central Florida community via multiple social media outlets focused on reforming the criminal legal system. This is a compilation of those ideas to be shared with both the Orlando Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office. This list is NOT all-encompassing, and is a product of collaborative governance. I continue to stress to law enforcement that directly impacted people must have a seat at the table for any any all reform efforts.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in Central Florida, and the message from protesters yesterday throughout Orlando was heard loud and clear.

I have been proud to play a leading role in reforming our criminal legal system in Tallahassee and have visited prisons, jails, probation offices, juvenile detention centers, residential facilities, and nonprofits who implement intervention/diversion programs.

I have done ride-alongs with police, coordinated de-escalation efforts with officers during community events, and have met with both correctional officers and members of our incarcerated communities along with their loved ones. …

CDC EVICTION MORATORIUM EXTENDED BUT ENDED BY COURT DECISION

  • CDC is issuing a new order temporarily halting evictions in counties with heightened levels of community transmission in order to respond to recent, unexpected developments in the trajectory of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the rise of the Delta variant.
  • However, on August 26, 2021 the Supreme Court of the United States blocked the Biden administration’s Covid-related eviction moratorium.
